NOTES: – I am all for automating things, but I really like the conductor messages on the train, and the occasional narrative quip. – Prunes / Raisins – The word for plumb in French is prune, and the word for grape in French is raisin. Why do those words have different meanins? Royals. https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/2j7q75/eli5_why_do_some_dried_fruits_raisins_prunes_etc/cl9j8o4 Also funny language thing: Want to see a Brit blush? Ask them what fanny pack means? – I didn’t go go Corgi Con, but Buzzfeed did! http://www.buzzfeed.com/samimain/corgicon-fall-2015#.idvZb3yMW And, http://www.sfgate.com/aboutsfgate/slideshow/Corgi-Con-118477.php – look how cute! – No one... Oct 11 – Carving orange pumpkins sounds like a pretty fitting way to ring in the season. You know what else does?
I bought pumpkins for the house. I’ll update you on progress! NOTES: – Highlights from the online classes I am taking: PHP: =, ==, === – all different things. = assigns something a value, == compares two variables to see if they have the same value and returns true or false, and === compares two variables to see if they have the same value and same data type and returns true or false. I don’t know why, but I really love === . PHP: I really don’t know when I... Read The Rest →
I am starting to go through documents and mails from the last few months. Tod Seelie posted some amazing photos on Flickr. Here are some of yours truly. Check out the rest of the shots he did for Everyhere Logistics. PLEASE HIRE TOD WHENEVER YOU NEED TO HIRE A PHOTOGRAPHER – commercial, editorial, reporting, portraits, whatever. Or, you know, just buy a book. Tod was part of the tour, and took amazing photos. He is dependable, easy to work with, dedicated, driven, fair and has a generous heart. Funny as hell,... NOTES: – CorgiCon is tomorrow! – I spent a lot of time today watching the Blue Angels fly over SF. Here is a picture of what a lot of that experience looks like. – I like to use a Mason Jar for drinks, and today I took it down to the cafe I like to get coffee from and got a steep discount for bringing my own cup! I really enjoy drinking out of heavy glass, and to save a bit of money doing it? Winning. – I also wonder... Read The Rest →
Sorry for being out of touch for awhile. I was doing it. And then recovering from it. And now, it’s time to sort through it and figure out next things! And this writing stuff help sorts it out. I’ll catch up with what happened. Sort of. But for now, back to the notes. – It is Fleet Week in SF – http://fleetweeksf.org/events/ – It also seems that China is dumping US government debt – http://www.wsj.com/articles/once-the-biggest-buyer-china-starts-dumping-u-s-government-debt-1444196065 This isn’t a bad thing. But it is a thing. Keep calm and carry on.... Read The Rest →
NOTES: – I sometimes think what it would be like if we made all the highways were train lines. http://money.cnn.com/2015/04/22/news/economy/earth-day-green-transportation http://www.csx.com/index.cfm/about-csx/projects-and-partnerships/fuel-efficiency/ http://breakingenergy.com/2015/03/12/wrightspeed-hybrid-electric-trucks-are-the-cutting-edge-of-truck-design/ – Riding the “Chinatown” bus. I really enjoy these. And the drivers are no messing around. – Literally hit the sidewalk running getting off the bus. I forgot how fast everyone moves. How you find a lane, but be careful not to get in the way. I turned the corner of a tight packed store and mad sure I was in the right side of the aisle in... Read The Rest →
NOTES: – The Honda has been cleared for travel! An oil change and new muffler and we are in business! – I went through the storage bins again. I think we are road worthy their too! – My mom made me take the afternoon off: skee ball and Indian buffet. My mom knows what’s up! – As part of our infrastructure, I went to an end of summer sale and got a cheap cannopy! Now we can figure out how to take over parking lots!!!
NOTES – Walking today Paul pointed out two hawks sitting just above our heads. It was the closest I think I have ever been to a wild bird of prey! – If you were looking to buy a pop-up canopy tent, now seems to be a great time to get them! – I love http://www.fivebelow.com/ – so much fun, cheap junk. I know I should buy more durable stuff, but this is a sweet indulgence. I bought some sunglasses to wear when I need to have more fun, to supplement... Read The Rest →
July 25 – East Coast – Mau Mau Island – another disappearing place I visit, and how to change your default from work to life
Orion creates the Battle of Mau Mau Island. You make a boat out of junk, you put on a costume, you bring it out, and you get towed out to a flotilla of other junk boats, and various sailboats that people now live on and abandoned boats that are more frequent than you may imagine as slip fees are rather high… The day is full of wrestling, stealing flags and people generally having a great time being around each other. It’s one of my favorite events of the year.... Read The Rest →
NOTES: – We may have balanced the East Coast budget this morning. And by balanced, it’s not that we have enough money, (not by a LONG SHOT), but that we’ve figured out how to make our known expenses match our known money. Oh, the corners we have cut. And the things we are going to have to figure out later. And the things that we are just not going to track. And our belief in the kindness of strangers. But, well, we think we can get the biscuits to work... Read The Rest →
